Mai Chau – Hoa Binh

MAI CHAU – HOA BINH

(3 days, 2 nights)

MaiChau is located in Hoa Binh province, approximately 135 km from Hanoi and 60 km from Hoa Binh. From the top of Cun Mountain, one can admire the superb panorama of Maichau surrounded by a green valley and stilt houses. Many minorities, including the Thai ethnic group, live in Maichau. Mai Chau can be a base for some trekking tours to the villages around, this is with homestay overnight on the traditional houses of the H’Mong and the Thai. Worth a guided treking tour there. Tourists especially enjoy the minority specialty dishes including rice cooked in bamboo and grilled meat. They also enjoy watching traditional dancing, music performances (bronze, drums, gongs), and Thai minority singing and dancing. The remote minority villages are attractive sites for tourists..

Day 1: Ha noi – Maichau (L, D)

Hanoi Tourism‘s car and guide will pick you up at 8.00am at hotel in Hanoi. It is two-hour drive from Hanoi to Hoa Binh Province. Located on the entrance of the northwest region of Vietnam (some 74 km south-west of Hanoi), Hoa Binh Province is proud to be one of the oldest areas in Vietnam with the word-famous “Hoabinhian Culture”. We will have a short break en route, and then move to Man Duc Commune (Tan Lac district) for lunch. On the way to Mai Chau, we will stop several times so you can take photos of the scenes.

Before having dinner at a stilt house in a Thai minority village, you will have a while to go around and enjoy the pure atmosphere around the valley. Clean and comfortable matresses, blankets and pillows are provided for your overnight stay in the village.

Day 2: Maichau Trekking (B, L, D)

You will trek for the whole day. We will transfer to Sam Khoe Village via bus, about 20km far from Mai Chau. During your trekking through villages, you can enjoy beautiful & peaceful scenery along the path. Mai Chau is the heart of a beautiful valley that is a world away from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi. The modern village is an unappealing sprawl, but as you emerge on the rice fields and rural living it is transformed into a real paradise. It’s a stunning area, and most people here are ethnic White Thai, distantly related to tribes in Thailand, Laos and China. We will have a picnic lunch en route.

It takes about 6 hours to trek back to Mai Chau, with a lot of stops on the way. Then we will have dinner and overnight stay in the village.
